Pomorie is located on a peninsula in 20 km to the north from Burgas. The settlement was founded in the 4th century BC by the Greek colonizers; at the time it was called “Anhialo”, which means "nearby salt”. It is not a coincidence. From the side of the continent Pomorie is surrounded by salt lakes, which give sea salt and healing mud. Due to this here you can deal with many pre-existing conditions. Many cosmetic products and “Pomorin” toothpaste are made based on the salt from Pomorie. The town is also known by its white wine, brandy, and the largest wine vault in Bulgaria. Like the other Bulgarian towns, Pomorie has the old part and the new one. The old part is completely occupied with buildings; it has narrow winding streets, stone shores, and berths. The new town resembles other developments of Bulgaria of the last decades: modern two-, three-, and four-storeyed buildings. As a resort the town has everything required for proper vacation: new hotels, private flats, apartments, cafes, bars, restaurants, wide clean beaches, clear warm sea, and low prices for all the services.
In the town there is an orthodox monastery named after St. George the Victorious.
At the resort of Pomorie the shore is low, sandy, with fully open seaside line stretching to the north up to the Stara Planina. The bay is imbordered by vast beach with the area of 18,700 sqm stretching for 7 km. The sea and the beach organically combine with the life of the town, which makes it extremely attractive. Water breakers located outside the swimming zones divert the cold current. Here you can enjoy perfect conditions for diving: shallow water, absence of reefs and cold current.
In Pomorie there are family houses, comfortable hotels, as well as a great number of bars and indoor pools. Convenient transport connects Pomorie with the other towns and resorts.
The closest airport is located at the distance of 8 km. Proximity to the Sunny Beach and the district centre of Burgas diversifies entertainment options. The territory of the bay of Pomorie is very convenient for sailing; here you can also find a berth for fishing lovers.
Along with the traditional peculiarities of lifestyle - growing of grapes, winemaking, salt production, fishing - tourism and activity connected with it define new face of the industry of this attractive seaside resort.
